How long have I worked here? Is a colleague about to reach ten years? In the middle of a busy working week, start dates are easy to lose track of. Save them as anniversaries in DayList to see the years you have built up and the next milestone ahead.
Save a start date as an anniversary
Enter the original year, month and day someone joined. Choose an anniversary rather than a birthday, and DayList shows the years since that date instead of an age.
- Tap the add button on the home screen.
- Enter a clear name, such as “My work anniversary”.
- Choose Anniversary and select the original start date, including the year.
- Add a group or reminders if needed, then save.
The year matters just as much as the month and day. Once you have entered it correctly, you do not need to update the number of years by hand.
How many years so far? How long until ten?
The list shows the years since the start date and the days until the next annual work anniversary. There is no need to do the calculation each time.
For example, someone who joined on April 1, 2017 reaches ten years on April 1, 2027. On September 28, 2026, DayList shows 9 years and 185 days until the next anniversary. In this example, that next anniversary is the tenth.
The countdown always refers to the next annual anniversary. Read it alongside the years of service to spot an approaching fifth, tenth or other milestone.
Keep your team’s milestones together
You can also save start dates for colleagues and people you manage. Create a group such as “Work” or “Sales team”, then add entries like “Alex’s work anniversary”.
Grouping the dates makes it easier to see how long everyone has been there, even when they joined at different times. Include “work anniversary” in each name to distinguish it from a birthday.
- Congratulate a colleague on five years with the company.
- Look back on a team member’s progress on their first anniversary.
- Arrange a meal with the people who joined at the same time as you.
How to organize birthdays and anniversaries into groups
Prepare with reminders and notes
Set a reminder so the anniversary does not slip by during a busy week. An advance reminder gives you time to prepare a message or a small gift.
Use notes for details such as “Started at the city office” or “Annual dinner with our intake”. If you give a present, save it in the gift log to look back on next year.
